Case of the Week

Smart case management: law firm minimizes downtime after accident

Reintegration example: Accident

01 Situation

A 28-year-old secretary from a law firm in St. Gallen suffered a cut on her dominant left hand (5 cm, 8 stitches). In an emergency, she was certified as being 100% unable to work for two weeks.

02 Solution

The employee contacted us just one day after the accident. After consultation with the employer, her ability to work was specifically adjusted: From the third day onwards, the patient was able to work 50% from home.

03 Partial ability to work

By regularly reviewing the healing process and communicating closely with the employer, the patient's ability to work was staggered as follows:

  • From day 3: 50% able to work (remotely from home)
  • From day 7: 80% able to work (tasks that do not strain the injured hand were coordinated)

04 Results

  • Better integration: The patient remained integrated despite her injury and her expertise could be utilized
  • Significant cost savings: CHF 5,400 - CHF 9,000 for the law firm (direct and indirect costs)
  • Reduction in absences: by a total of 9 days

05 Share success story

By flexibly adapting her ability to work and communicating closely, the law firm was able to continue to utilize the expertise of its employee while saving significant costs.
